Hickam FCU is Now Lōkahi FCU

This year marks a significant milestone in our credit union’s history. On March 4, 2025, we proudly transitioned from Hickam Federal Credit Union to Lōkahi Federal Credit Union—a name that embodies our values, our mission, and the members we serve.

Why the Change?

Our credit union has a long and proud history, dating back to our founding in 1936 as Hawaiian Air Depot Federal Credit Union. Around 75 years ago, we became Hickam Federal Credit Union, and continued to serve military personnel, civilian employees of Hickam Air Force Base, and their families.

In 2011, we expanded to an island-wide charter, welcoming members from across Oʻahu. However, many still associate our name with our military past, leading to a common misconception that membership is limited to those with military ties.

Our new name, Lōkahi Federal Credit Union, reflects who we’ve always been—an institution built on unity, community, and the spirit of working together. While our name is changing, our values, our commitment, and our service to our members remain the same. We are honored to continue growing alongside you for generations to come.

The Meaning of Lōkahi

In ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi, “Lōkahi” means unity, harmony, and accord—values that have been at the heart of our credit union since day one. It represents the spirit of togetherness that strengthens our members and community, reinforcing our belief that when we work together, we thrive together.

Lōkahi also honors our founding members, who came together to create a financial institution dedicated to empowering individuals, supporting families, and enriching our community.

What’s Staying the Same?

While our name has changed, our commitment to exceptional service, financial wellness, and community support remains unwavering. Members can expect the same friendly faces, trusted products, and personalized service that have defined our credit union for nearly 90 years.

All account numbers, services, cards, checks, and online banking access remain unchanged, ensuring a seamless transition for our members.

Looking Ahead

As Lōkahi Federal Credit Union, we look forward to continuing our mission of financial empowerment, community connection, and unwavering member support. Our new name is a reflection of our past, present, and future—a future we are excited to share with you.

Mahalo for being part of our journey. We can make it better, together.

In celebration of our new name, we are offering exciting Certificate, Personal Loan, and Auto Loan specials. Learn more. Hurry! Specials available through April 30, 2025!

A Grateful Mahalo &
a New Addition to Our Board

Lōkahi Federal Credit Union extends its heartfelt gratitude to Cheryl Suzuki for her dedicated service as a Board Member over the past 10 years. Prior to her board tenure, Cheryl also served on the Supervisory Committee for three years, contributing her time and expertise to the success of our credit union. We sincerely appreciate her commitment and the lasting impact she has made.

To fill the vacancy left by Cheryl’s resignation, the Lōkahi Federal Credit Union Board of Directors has appointed Deborah Kim to serve until the 2026 Annual Meeting.

Deborah brings over 40 years of experience in the credit union industry, including 17 years as President & CEO at two Hawaiʻi-based credit unions before retiring in 2020. With her extensive financial expertise and deep understanding of member needs, she will play a vital role in guiding our credit union forward.

Please join us in thanking Cheryl for her service and welcoming Deborah to the Lōkahi Federal Credit Union Board of Directors!

Keiki & Kupuna IDs

Four keiki with their new IDs

On Saturday, March 8, Lōkahi Federal Credit Union kicked off our first community service project since adopting our new name, reaffirming our commitment to serving and supporting our community. We were honored to provide our Keiki & Kupuna ID service at the Celebrate Safe Communities event at Pearlridge Center, organized by the State of Hawaiʻi Department of the Attorney General Crime Prevention and Justice Assistance Division.

A dedicated team of 19 staff and family volunteers assisted with intake, capturing photos and fingerprints, and producing the ID cards. In total, we created 122 Keiki IDs and 7 Kupuna IDs, helping families take an important step in safeguarding their loved ones.

While Keiki and Kupuna IDs are not official identification, they serve as a valuable resource in emergencies, providing families with essential information that can aid authorities in locating or identifying missing children and elders. Each card includes the individual’s photo, personal details, and fingerprints, offering peace of mind to caregivers.

At Lōkahi FCU, our name reflects who we’ve always been—rooted in unity, support, and service. Mahalo to everyone who stopped by, and a heartfelt thank you to our incredible volunteers for making this event a success! We look forward to continuing to serve and uplift our community together.
